The Trump administration has just issued numerous edicts extolling the virtues of DEI and really encouraging the growth of the DEI sector. DEI is going to explode in the next few years, to become a huge sector of the US and therefore the global economy in its own right. Global corporations and law firms will be doubling down on their DEI initiatives, not out of any sort of corporate conformity or to gain favour with the current political administration, but because they truly believe in the goodness of DEI and ESG initiatives. DEI is here to stay. For those applying to US firms in particular, be sure emphasise the importance of DEI for the current US government and US corporations (their clients) and they will lap it up. Heck, they’ll probably make you partner right there and then, to demonstrate the “equity” in DEI.

If you want to shine know about these but focus on something niche and preferably pertinent to the firm you are applying to’s area of expertise or growth. Would also add generic AI, ESG and macro economic issues to the “to be avoided” list unless you’ve got a niche area that you can talk to in detail.
