He could only have been struck off for a flagrant breach of Rule 7.5 – The profession cannot tolerate this sort of conduct – the cover-up is worse than the original offence.

7.5 You do not attempt to prevent anyone from providing information to the SRA or any other body exercising regulatory, supervisory, investigatory or prosecutory functions in the public interest.

The error of judgment on it’s own was extremely reckless, even under pressure. But the email was the nail, unfortunately.

The lying about the deposit was bad enough but the emails were an invitation for the other side to become a party to his misconduct.

That email alone is sufficient for a strike-off, never mind what had happened to get to that point. Good riddance I’m afraid.
